Hot Games

The best RPG's, though, tell a compelling story, provide plenty of exploration, and let you mix it up with fun, addictive battles. On those counts, Grandia II is a rousing success.

Daily Radar

Luckily, the lame story is the one glaring flaw in an otherwise stupendous role-playing game.

100

GamePro

There are no branching pathways or mulitiple endings, but if you're looking for a rip-roaring adventure, you can't go wrong.

Games Radar UK (Pre-2006)

The scope for customisation, combined with the excellent battle system, a beautifully drawn game world, and an engrossing (if somewhat cliche) story means that Grandia 2 easily rivals the likes of "FF."

Sega X

If you love RPGs and are looking for a compelling story with well-written characters, good graphics and a strong soundtrack, Grandia II is about as good as it gets!

95

Gaming Maxx

With awesome graphics, dead-on voice acting, an ingenious battle system, and a strong story plot, you would be crazy to pass this game up.

IGN

Combined with a fantastic battle system, great customization features, and wonderful visuals, Grandia II may have the same story all the RPG-world around, but it tells it with brilliant gameplay design and excellent style

Game Revolution

High-quality graphics along with a new action doused combat system that's bound together with a solid story make for one hell of a game.

CNET Gamecenter

The great combat system and engaging story truly make the game a gem, not only on the Dreamcast but in the RPG genre as a whole.

DC Swirl

The ultimate remake of what has been done before but with the benefit of technology making everything look prettier, cleaner and fancier, not to mention a minor tweak or two to things that were so good the first time around they weren't worth messing around with.

Dreamcast HQ

What you have here is simply the greatest RPG that has ever been created. And while I put "Skies of Arcadia" right up with it, it's still a big number 2.

GamerWeb Sega

Grandia II not only provides one of the best combat systems ever seen in an RPG, it also serves up a thought-provoking story (once you get past a rather arid first half), eye-poppingly beautiful graphics, and some truly likable characters.

Planet Dreamcast

The battle system surpasses that of any other RPG on the market, and you'll be going out of your way to hunt down innocent little monsters and deliver them to their final reward.

Core Magazine

While it has spectacular graphics and a compelling storyline, the game is marred by extremely linear gameplay, and simplified mechanics make it better suited for beginners rather than veterans.

GameSpot

A solid RPG... even if it isn't as deep or difficult as the original.

Happy Puppy

It's the second-best RPG on the Dreamcast, and is surely a fantastic second helping that satisfies that next-generation RPG hunger that's only just been alleviated by "Skies of Arcadia."

Spank!

If they could have added a bit more variety, in terms of plot twists and gameplay structure this could have been a real contender.

Will B gave it an8:
A very good game, despite it's age. While I typically dislike traditional turn-based rpgs, this game really won me over with it's unique, entertaining battle system. The graphics are pretty good for a game from it's time. The only issues I have with it are it's rather linear nature and story, which is a bit on the generic side. All in all though, it's a very fun, engaging game that holds up quite well even today.

Yun k gave it a10:
The game seriously rocks. The battle system's unique and very addictive and the character development is far beyond what many games have accomplished. At the end of the game you'll feel like you've known the characters all your life.

Lauren L. gave it a 10:
This game was amazing with beautiful graphics a compelling story and totally unique combat style.

R. T. gave it a 10:
Even years after its original release date, the fast-paced combat makes it stack up against other RPGs.

Mr. Chicken gave it a 10:
It's more addicting than crack!

Eddur dr.obed gave it a 10:
Great graphics, awesome battle sysytem , cliche story and esspecially great charme!

Sega Guides gave it a 9:
One of the greatest RPG's for dreamcast. Grandia II provides excellent graphics, characters, and battle modes. Aside from a few minor plot holes, this game has everything a great RPG needs.
