Summary

The Ghostbusters are back in an all new story penned by the original creators. With Manhattan newly overrun by ghosts and other supernatural creatures, it's up to you to take on the role of a new recruit joining the original film cast of the famous Ghostbusters team. Equipped with a variety of unique weapons and gadgets, you will hunt, fight and capture a wide range of uncanny phantasms and demons in an all new funny and frightening battle to save New York City from its latest paranormal plague. To deliver a special gaming experience to the tremendous Ghostbusters’ fan base around the world, the game features the original film cast from the classic Ghostbusters films, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson, back again for the first time in more than 20 years. Supporting the ghost busting crew are the talents of Annie Potts, Brian Doyle Murray and William Atherton. [Sierra Entertainment]

Line-quoting Ghostbusters aficionados should have no trouble overlooking the game’s occasional gameplay flaws to revel in the fun concepts and remarkable fan service Ghostbusters: The Video Game provides on the DS. Even when a tad flawed, bustin’ feels good.

Gamervision

An above-average handheld movie tie-in. Half of the game plays well, and keeps you coming back for more with missions that don’t take too long, and offer a nice level of challenge. The other half, however, is a tremendous chore that seriously hurts the experience as a whole.

In the end though, the RPG-type elements outweigh this repetition and make it a fun play, especially if you are any sort of Ghostbusters fan or one who likes to game on the go.

The concepts, overall design, and multi-character system works great. It’s just a bit too rough all-around for this first Ghostbusters endeavor.

Worth Playing

Overall Ghostbusters in its DS incarnation is more of a collector's item than a lasting entertainment.

The Ecto-1 segments are painful and the camera doesn't always behave the way you want, but blasting ghosts on the DS has never been this fun. I recommend checking it out if you are a die-hard fan of the series, but everyone else would be wise to rent first before taking the plunge.

NGamer UK

Contains both ghosts and busting, but neither is as fun as it should be, despite good intentions. A chore to play through. Boo. [Sept 2009, p.68]

Pocket Gamer UK

Forget about calling Ghostbusters. Call a priest to exorcise this game of its broken controls, repetitive missions, and lame driving sequences.

Some busted mechanics and picky controls will make you think twice before bringing these Ghostbusters on the road.

The cutscenes convey the Ghostbusters franchise as good as one could expect. They are filled with great graphics, great voiceovers, and movie-quality sound effects. The rest of the game has trouble living up to the cutscenes. In fact, the game has trouble living up to standards of a good DS game.

GameShark

In the end, is Ghostbusters the worst game I've ever played? No. It just pales so much in comparison to the other versions that it's not even worth picking up for anyone other than diehard fans of the series.

NintendoWorldReport

The gameplay shows a few signs of quality in the story missions, but it falls apart in the horrendous driving sections and bland side missions. Ghostbusters die-hards who only have a DS should look into this game, but everyone else should steer clear.

kk .lok gave it a0:
This game deserves a zero. I rented it because they didn't have ps3 or xbox 360 copies at blockbuste, and when i brought it home i nearly barfed. I mean sure the graphics are great for the ds but did they really have to bring back the driving stages. You can't even switch the controls to lefty. I'm a lefty and i could barely play. Even if i was a righty i would wish i was a lefty!
