Summary
Meet Henry Hatsworth, a quirky, light-hearted character who players will guide on their journey through a new style of gaming adventure on their Nintendo DS. In this two-in-one adventure, players explore five exotic worlds, fight a variety of opponents, and venture through more than 30 levels, including nearly a dozen hidden levels while taking on outrageous world-ending bosses. The separate worlds on the two Nintendo DS screens have a cause and effect inter-relationship, and players choose when to switch between conquering the action-platform realm and mastering the increasingly challenging puzzle world. A wide variety of power-ups help Hatsworth in both of these worlds. Players complete puzzle combinations and defeat puzzle enemies in order to gain power ups, health, and energy to supercharge Hatsworth in his adventure. [Electronic Arts]

Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure is a fantastic game for anyone who loves old school platformers and match 3 puzzle games.

A game with little of marketing which shows itself as a surprise from EA: one of the best games released this year for the DS, intending to show that DS owners not only live with "stylus."

It is only March and I already know Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure is a very strong candidate for game of the year on Nintendo's handheld. The exciting adventure mode mixed up with the puzzle gameplay is a surprisingly good formula that's both entertaining and very rewarding.

It’s the kind of game that can only work this well on the Nintendo DS, and despite a rather simple puzzle element, ends up being better than the sum of its parts. If you’re looking for your next DS fix, this one will have your head buried in it for days.

Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure is one of the most unique games on the Nintendo DS, and a blast to play.

There isn’t much more that can be said about Hatsworth without coming right out and telling you to buy it, which is exactly what I’m doing. The game blends the action/patforming genre with traditional puzzle gaming very well, the music, visuals, character design, and story is all completely over the top, and the action elements are a total love letter to dozens of different games spanning a handful of different schools of design.

On their own, the adventure and puzzle segments of Henry Hatsworth would not be especially interesting videogames. But this experiment succeeds because of how well the two genres play off one another. While certain level elements can feel monotonous, the core experience is sound, delivering controlled chaos into the palms of your achy, sweating hands.

It's as addictive as Puzzle Quest, but instead of utilizing an RPG element, EA married the puzzle concept to a platformer. The result is a fantastic title that should appeal to gamers of all stripes.

Games like Hatsworth is the reason why the DS was made and the DS was made for games like Hatsworth.

Not only is Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure a classic original game (that's sure to become a franchise if it attains the success that it so rightfully deserves) but it's one that combines platforming and puzzling in an ingenious fashion, making it a real breath of fresh air in the stale atmosphere of endless casual game derivatives and shovelware that continues to plague the DS.

If you own a DS, be sure to put Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure on your "must buy" list. It may not have gotten a massive amount of press, but it's sure to rise in popularity thanks to positive word of mouth.

As we have already said, Henry Hatsworth is one of the best and biggest surprise the Nintendo DS has given us in this year. Its excellent and varied gameplay is its best argument to understand its success between the critic and the public, apart from its fun story and its unlimited addictivity, thanks to combining two concepts: puzzles and platforms.

Overall, Henry Hatsworh in the Puzzling Adventure is truly a satisfying game and has provided the most fun I have had on the DS in quite some time.

Henry Hatsworth is one of the most unique games on Nintendo DS. A good game that blends the action - platforming genre with traditional puzzle gaming exceptionally well.

Combines two genres successfully into one and creates something new in the process. Slight repetitiveness aside, the game is challenging and a whole lot of fun. [June 2009]

If you like platformers or puzzle games, try Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure. You'll enjoy it.

Take a look at the latest platform games of the DS and, now, expend one minute to see Henry Hatsworth in action. This iconic gentlemen has a hilarious story to tell you, fusing at the same time puzzle and platform genres with an extraordinary ability. Without any doubt, one of the best DS games of the year.

This odd combination of platforming and block busting makes for one awesome experience.

Though Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling adventure kind of ends on a sour note with a particularly steep difficulty curve near the end, the entire adventure is very much worth experiencing for any gamer that would like a challenging and quirky platformer with a load of charm on top.

In a medium that needs to bust out of its tried-and-true archetypes, Hatsworth succeeds by thinking inside the box.

Hatsworth manages to line up three titles, New Super Mario Bros, Planet Puzzle League, and Guilty Gear and knocks them out of your collection. It is seriously good enough to replace all three.

The whole package is very much worth playing through, even if it doesn't do much of anything outright new apart from the genre combination. This is the title, like Retro Game Challenge, that is helping to keep the classics around. And for good reason: everybody should get the chance to play them.

Each element of the adventure complements the other perfectly, leaving gamers with a true sense of satisfaction afterwards. Definitely not one to miss out on...

Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure may have seemed a puzzling combination of gameplay elements, but it came together with wonderful grace.

It's cheap as chips, is perfect for the odd half-hour commute and, most importantly of all, is solid fun. A bizarre, and successful experiment.

Simple enough for non-gamers to enjoy, entertaining enough for hardcore gamers to love, Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure is a must-play, if not must-own, DS title.

Two displays, two games, one bowler. Average platformer + average puzzle game + sweet audio & video composition = a surprisingly playable and enjoyable mix. [Apr 2009]
Level7.nu
This is a title that treats us to a charming combination of puzzles and platforming. You gain bonuses in the upper screen of your DS by solving puzzles on the touchscreen below. The pacing can become a tad bit stressful at times but that's the only major caveat in what's otherwise a charming experience that should appeal to all fans of these two genres.

A wonderfully unique title on a format well-known for its fair share of quirky hits, somehow EA has managed to fully realise and tap its true potential.

An interesting mix of action platformer and match-three, plus a dash of humour, Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure is a surprising success.

Neither game is particularly great on its own, but the two intersect in clever ways to become much more than the sum of their parts. [Apr 2009, p.83]
Edge Magazine
This is a delightfully risky experiment, and the end result is pure alchemy: the blending of two fiercely traditional genres into something both unique and entirely natural. [Apr 2009, p.125]
GameDaily
EA did an excellent job blending both genres and we enjoyed the humorous dialogue, cut scenes and gameplay, especially when Henry wrecks bad guys while piloting a giant robot. Fun, charming and addictive, Henry Hatsworth is one of the best games for the DS.

Ultimately, the game requires more skill and frankly, more patience than many gamers, casual or otherwise, will be able to muster.
The game mostly manages to walk that fine line between catering toward the casual and the hardcore, but in those moments when it leans more toward the hardcore crowd, you experience DS-shaking frustration.
Read Full Review >Official Nintendo Magazine UK
If only EA had pushed the bizarreness boat out a little further. Still, this is a fun little curio.
While the platformer and the puzzler in Henry Hatsworth are perfectly competent, they're nothing special. Neither could be described as classic examples of their genre, and neither offer anything new. The switching mechanic does add interest, but not quite enough to make Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure a great game.
Hardcore platformer fans will find this a trying test of skills. Henry Hatsworth could have been one of the most unique and interesting games on the DS, but some baffling design choices hold it back from greatness.

EA's latest DS game is half platformer, half puzzle game, all fun (well, three quarters at least).

Nick B gave it a10:
This game is incredible. It's got amazing charm; the graphics are well done and stylized, the enemies are cute, and the voices are straight out of Animal Crossing. The gameplay is fast and furious and eases you into the gameplay at a decent speed. Be aware, though, that this game will get challenging the farther along you go. As a gamer who really isn't good at games, I felt the difficulty ramped up at a very steady pace so that I was continuously challenged, but never overwhelmed. I fully recommend it to anyone who enjoys having fun.
Michael J gave it a10:
This titles staggering difficulty in the later stages is perfectly complimented by the ability to find hidden levels and non-mandatory upgrades to the suit, as well as extensive replay value and charming style and visuals. Simply up there with the best 2D platformers of all time.
HolyCow gave it a10:
EA Tiburon? What? How? This is one of the greatest games I've ever played. Old school action at its finest with an addictive puzzle mode thrown in. I'd expect something like this from Treasure not EA! Pick this one up now. Immediately. Right now.
P B gave it a6:
Whilst the puzzle elements, entertaining boss levels and good scripting help the game no end, the platforming elements are generic, repetitive combat quickly becomes frustrating and an overly steep difficulty curve towards the end will put off a lot of gamers.
YH J gave it a10:
Chilli m, you sound exactly as if you JUST started the game. Just wait until you play until the third world. It's extreme difficultly really made me want to put down the game, but the robot suit and the constant updates it gets really makes it fun. I beat SMB3, and I find this game very challenging overall, and almost as challenging. Play it again, and play it until the third boss this time, will ya? Don't give a crap review, when you JUST started this amazing game.
chili m gave it a3:
Repetitive combat and boring level design. Puzzle portion only manages to slows the game down, as you constantly having to switch back and forth between puzzle and platform segments. The levels themselves lack challenge and creativity. Challenge comes froms bosses and trap rooms where you're trapped and must clear out the of respawning enemies that do high amounts of damage. As a longtime fan of 2d platformers, I can say there really isn't anything special about this Henry Hatsworth. Mediocre at best.
