Summary
(Also known as "Enchanted Folk and the School of Wizardry" in the UK/EU) Set in a magic school, the game entails mastering a series of spells and incantations in order to achieve a Magician Licence and become Master Wizard. To this end, the player enrolls in the Magic Academy where alongside over 150 fully interactive pupils, they must learn and implement key spells and use them wisely. During the course of a term, however, the player is asked to solve a series of puzzles by mysterious beings that appear once a week throughout the game. Doing so will reward the user with extra items for use in their magic, and contribute towards the player's advancement. The other inhabitants of the School are key to the player's progress. They can make friends with anybody in the school and through these friendships learn new spells and abilities, as well as go shopping or take up hobbies, join bands to play music together, and even go on dates. Similarly, the school is rife with gossip related to available mysterious events, romance, stories among the pupils and players can even lend their character to friends in a unique 'Study Abroad' scheme wherein they are imported to a friend's game world for tutoring - and will even discuss their adventures on their return! Different stories and adventures will be revealed depending on what bonds are formed with the game's characters and how the player chooses to solve each of the 52 adventures. With its truly immersive game world and adaptive gameplay - all of which is played in real time courtesy of the DS internal clock - Enchanted Folk and the School of Wizardry is a truly magical experience. Packed with unique items for use in magic, the player faces many long and hard challenges as they strive to attain the coveted five-star rating that will earn the Master Wizard accolade. Despite the fact that it is clearly being marketed at children, Enchanted Folk is a surprisingly deep game. Fans of Animal Crossing may feel that this is a little too similar for its own good, but other young gamers should have plenty of fun with their magical studies. The slow pace won't be for everyone, but kids who do like this will probably play it for a long time.

Although the game is very slow to start, once you get into it there is plenty of fun to be had if you like the Animal Crossing formula.

You have to take a Zen approach to it; just explore, collect mushrooms and flowers, capture bugs with your wand-turned-net, and let things happen. [June 2009, p.89]
IGN
It’s undeniably and shamelessly an Animal Crossing clone, but it’s also a good one, offering up a magical spin on the whole design.

For anyone who hasn't given Nintendo's originator of this game style a try, I still would whole heartedly recommend Animal Crossing over Magician's Quest. There is just something about the charm that AC offers that seems to be more inviting to the everyday gamer. On the other hand, if you are like myself and have played Nintendo's versions to death since it's incarnation on the Game Cube, then you will be ecstatic to know that Magician's Quest is as close to a sequel or follow up to AC as you can possibly get.

Mysterious Times is a competent Animal Crossing clone. If you are sick and tired of woodland creatures, you should give Mysterious Times a try and be pleasantly surprised at how well the game was done.

If you liked Harry Potter and Animal Crossing at the DS, Enchanted Folk will also entertain you.

Enchanted Folks is not just an Animal Crossing clone: Konami has successfully upgraded the classic formula of the great Nintendo game. An interesting setting and a few innovative ideas make this game very solid. Despite of the name, unfortunately it lacks a little bit of "magic" and a wider world area.

Sorry wizardry fans; if you're looking for magical mystery, I suggest you re-read Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Magician's Quest just doesn't deliver.

There are a couple of neat features in Enchanted Folk, but it gets too bogged down with boring activities and doesn't make enough of its magic theme. [June 2009, p.66]
Eurogamer
Enchanted Folk is to Animal Crossing what the first Saints Row was to GTA; it's a competent, entertaining knock-off, but it's still a knock-off.

It's cute and I can see certain subsets of gamers becoming addicted to treasure hunting and meeting all of the residents, but there are no new discoveries to be found here.
