Summary
Players can choose from 30 different hover car racers, including updated representations of the Blue Falcon and other vehicles from the original F-Zero. Each car does have significantly different handling characteristics. Some feel lightweight and agile, others are heavy and ponderous, but it's possible to win with any of them. While it might seem that a faster car would always be best, the heavier cars are armored and better able to withstand the damage inducing side rails of the courses. On some of the more treacherous and twisting courses, it's possible to win simply by being the last hover car floating. [Nintendo]

Gaming Age
The framerate and action more than makes up for the slightly less than average graphics. This is a title that no self-respecting N64 owner should pass up. Nintendo has created the first true N64 classic since Mario 64.

In the grand scheme of things, F-Zero X will probably appeal to older gamers more, who want pure racing over arcade frills and still have a soft spot fot the original F-Zero. An excellent update to the grand daddy of cyber racers that only suffers under its generic look.

F-Zero X is a terrific update of a classic game that deserves the attention of anyone who owns an N64.

It might not look too hot, but F-Zero X is one hell of a racer. [Jan 2004, p.189]

With the random track generator, the smooth visuals, the awesome multiplayer & the comic-book atmosphere, this game becomes a must-by.

A little more innovation would have been appreciated, but this is one case where a more or less straight update of the SNES original was all that was needed to produce a great game.

This is quite possibly the best racing game I've ever played. It doesn't have the glitz of some other racing games, but it has one thing that's been sorely neglected. Speed. Lots of speed.

You'll love the speed of the play whether it's four player or single. Also there's plenty of options including an elimination death match, time trial etc. I like the fact that you have to unlock the game. It kind of keeps you interested that way.

Just like all of the best Nintendo games, the more you play F-Zero X, the more you'll appreciate its subtleties. It may not impress you at first glance but I can assure you, this cart is packed with gold.

Combining high speed racing with well designed tracks and tons of competitors, F-Zero X surely does its predecessor proud. All in all, this game is plain fun. Nothing really new, but nothing bad either.

Comparing F-Zero X with other futuristic racers on the Nintendo 64 is rather difficult, since neither Extreme-G nor AeroGauge are in the same league. In a nutshell, Nintendo has another winner on its hands. One of the finest futuristic racers to grace a console.

A fantastic racer with great control and a large number of tracks and cars to choose from. Add in the multiplayer mode, and this is a game you really cannot afford to miss.

Practically flawless from a technical standpoint, the biggest thing missing from F-Zero X is that it lacks a soul.

The fastest racing game in the N64. The multiplayer is very fun (and fast).
Caleb gave it a1:
I despised F-Zero X. One of the worst games I've ever played. Very repetitive, terrible graphics and just plain boring. The whole game was bland and I can't stress how repetitive it was. I do give it a one though, because it does give me some enjoyment, though very little. I would never recommend this game in a million years.
Robert A. gave it a 9:
