Summary

Developed and published by Rare ("GoldenEye 007," "Banjo-Tooie"), Jet Force Gemini is an outer-spacey shooter starring three bold heroes. The story is set in an unknown region of our galaxy, where a team of adventurers called Jet Force Gemini is bravely struggling against the looming threat of a warlord named Mizar. Juno, Vela, and their loyal pooch Lupus ignore the apathetic galactic authorities and set out to drive a stake through the heart of Mizar's operation. [Nintendo]

Electric Playground

While the game may not boast the gilded depth and scope of Zelda or the originative spark of Mario, Jet Force Gemini has stolen its way into my heart and become my favorite game on the Nintendo 64.

The gameplay in JFG is reminiscant of a girl that is nice most of the time, but sometimes she can be a real bitch. I believe this game is only second to Zelda64, but it is so close I sometimes waiver on which I think is better.

This is entertainment on a grand scale, simply on another level to the rest of the clone-driven, deadline-throttled gaming industry. A breathtaking arcade blast which makes the N64 essential.

The daunting task may seem like an obstacle in the way of enjoying the game, but a unique adventure like this doesn't come along very often. So, a definite buy for any N64 owner looking for action that can't be found anywhere else.

Nitpicky complaints do little to spoil Jet Force Gemini's bottom line: It's chock-full of gameplay variety. Nintendo 64 fans should pick up this title without delay and hope that Rareware's team of top-notch talent will continue to churn out even more games like this one for years to come.

IGN

One of Nintendo 64's most original games and it has much more good going for it than it does bad. Never-ending action, tons of enemies, loads of worlds to explore and Rare's unique brand of humor work to make this a good title that could have been a classic with a little more polish.

All Game Guide

Pays homage to 8- and 16-bit games with its emphasis on high-intensity action and level design that requires skill with the controller. Jet Force Gemini just may remind you of the frustrating, yet engrossing, fun you had back in the 8-bit era.

Hot Games

Each world has a unique feel and you’re given free reign to explore it while coating the walls with insect insides. You’ve never seen so many special effects on the screen at one time in any Nintendo 64 game before this, and some of the more action-packed scenes later on in the game really light up the screen. Top class.

Game Revolution

Why, it's the bastard child of "Starship Troopers" and "Star Wars!" Jet Force Gemini isn't nearly on par with Goldeneye or Zelda, but as a pure search-and-destroy, it has its moments.

Jet Force Gemini has everything an action game fan could want and more. It has big explosions, big guns, and big special effects. After giving it a go, however, I am inclined to think that Rare bit off more than they could chew.

None of the problems which plague Jet Force Gemini really prevent if from being a good game. It's not the best that Rare have ever produced, but it can still prove to be an enthralling challenge.

Gaming Age

JFG is basically Mega Man in 3D. The objective of saving all the Tribals is a rather anal task, it must be said, and an extremely annoying one. Too annoying. Otherwise, the game is good fun and still comes recommended.

Jet Force Gemini proves to be the one dud to which all game makers are entitled. Should Rareware throw another one of these on the heap, we may be forced to rethink their role as ‘‘king of the Nintendo 64’s developers.’’

Thom L gave it a5:
I felt I had to vote, lest someone is fooled into believeing this game is a classice based on a lot of nines and tens. I agree, it is a very good game, however, it is severely let down by the "tribal" rescue component. This sort of tedious "collection" based game play should never have been implemented. It basically ruins a great game. I knew a lot of people who owned this game, real geeks too, and only one of them finished. In his words: "I did it, but no game should be this boring. Ever."

lokionicle E. gave it a10:
Jet force gemini is a real game that uses cleverness with weapons and everything, the music is the best i've heard, and i actually turn the volume ALL the way up on my stereo, and the hardest part is the freakin' villagers, MAN!

[Anonymous] gave it a10:
This game is surely a gem, I just bought it recently for only $7! I was surprised. :) Though, I played it before I just picked it up, a good 4 years ago (probably more), actually. It was just as awesome as I had remembered it. Really, well, in one word this game is: FUN.

Soul D. gave it a10:
This is a great game and MUCH fun! I hope a remake for Nintendo is coming. I love the music and graphics and goofy story line.

Shaun gave it a9:
Let me explain something... see, there's this little mentality in the reviewing world where you can't differ too much from other people's opinions due to marketing reasons, upper-level pressure, etc... Basically, what I mean is that the proffesional reviews of this game mean nothing. Since it is a game from Rare they have tried to pick out every little thing possible because Rare is held to very high standards (unfairly in some cases, such as here). If this was a game from any other developer, its reviews would have been considerably better. With that being said, this game is an amazing fast paced little fireball of a fun thing. One of the biggest pluses that I think it gets bashed for is the difficulty. Unless you're a wimpy, whiney little newbie gamer who can't handle tough stuff, you should revel in the fact that this game is pretty difficult. At times, it's repetitive trying to capture all the tribals and certain other goals, but nothing so overwhelming that you will have to stop playing. It's so fun, the levels are so creative, the creatures are cool, and the splattering of alien guts is so well done, that this is in some ways a classic, and at worst a very very good game with some flaws. Long, hard, and fun... that's the way we like 'em :)

Gro-Ab-Shalk gave it a10:
Great run-and-gun shooter, smooth action, clean graphics, great fun, great multi-player whether shootout or co-op.

n64 nes gave it a10:
Best game ever made in the universe!!!!
