Summary
A brutal team sport unfolding in a parallel fantasy world based on Warhammer and American football, Blood Bowl invites gamers to form a team of players from races including: Orcs, Elves, Humans, Dwarfs and many other fantasy creatures, and launch themselves into battle in the bloodiest of arenas. This strategy sports game combines a fine balance of tactics and bone crunching action! The game offers two game modes. The first, which is fully real time, offers spectacular gameplay with intense battles between blocking linemen and daring displays of agility of players leaping and dodging through opponents tackle zones, while powerful spells and dirty trick special plays are unleashed across the field. All this creates a highly charged atmosphere. Of course, since it is sometimes difficult to keep an eye on the entire field at once, the game's interface offers different tactical and strategic setups, while the AI is responsible for managing the players on the field. The second game mode, an actual turn-based game, is a treat for players of the original board game because it is an exact replica of Games Workshop's tabletop masterpiece. The original rules have been faithfully reproduced, and it contains all of the devices, strategies, play and rhythm of the original game. [Focus Home Interactive]

Games Master UK
Wet think it feels like Final Fantasy Tactics meets Madden. [Nov 2009, p.87]
PSM3 Magazine UK
If you're part of the miniscule demographic interested in it, Blood Bowl is deep and often rewarding to play. [Nov 2009, p.66]
Vandal Online
Bloodbowl results interesting in comparison with the many titles in the sports genre, and it merges it with strategy quite well.

The latest adaptation of Blood Bowl on handheld is just enough to become a good game, but nothing more far from that. It doesn't matter if you're playing on a Nintendo DS or a PSP, just note that the controls and the graphic style is very much the same thing on both games. Still it's a valuable game if you're looking for something different on the strategy genre.

The PSP-version of Blood Bowl is a decent port of the PC-version and is more focused and streamlined compared to its predecessor. This goes at the cost of a few game options, but except for the online-multiplayer these will hardly be missed.

The game will let the experienced player build a unique team and lead them to glory in the league or against like-minded PSP owning friends. But it's a game that a huge portion of the playing public simply won't enjoy due to the lack of actual sport in what looks on the surface to essentially be an American Football game.

Between both handheld versions, the PSP one is the game that feels that it’s just a shrunken down version of the PC edition, just without the higher crisp graphics.

The novelty is short-lived, but in terms of tactics and squad-building it's nearly organised and surprisingly playable. [Nov 2009, p.135]
Play UK
It's generally below the standard that any self-respecting fan should expect. [Issue#184, p.81]
