Summary

Hero Jak and his mischievous sidekick Daxter are back together and for the first time-ever they've joined forces on PSP. Get set for the latest addition to the smash-hit Jak and Daxter series, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. Prepare for non-stop action and adventure as the duo travel across mysterious lands and take to the sky on a mission to save their planet from destruction. Take this incredible adventure with you anywhere on your PSP, or play it at home with PlayStation 2. Picking up from where the original Jak and Daxter trilogy left off, Jak and furry friend Daxter team up with their friend Kiera on her quest to become a Sage and save their world from the threat of darkness. As the environment of their planet slowly dies, our two worldly heroes embark on a mission to protect their world from the threat of "dark eco". Beginning on foot, you'll run and jump across undiscovered lands, before taking flight in one of five different aircrafts. With cheeky Daxter and our serious Hero Jak together on the adventure, fun and laughter is never far away. Blast airborne enemies and battle sky pirates with your powerful Gunstaff - a brand-new weapon that can transform into other new weapons. [Sony]

GameZone

Despite its few issues, The Lost Frontier is yet another gratifying Jak and Daxter game that feels right at home on the PSP. While we could have done without the Dark Daxter moments in the game, flying the unfriendly skies and exploring the impressive Lost Frontier is more than enough reason to pick this one up right away.

Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier provides the true sequel to this beloved series that fans have been waiting for. The game is a high mark for PSP platform games and it really shows off just how much graphical performance a developer can get out of the handheld.

Eurogamer

Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier is one of the best platformers available for PSP (the other ones being LittleBigPlanet and the three-year-old Daxter). It also stands as evidence that there's life in the old Naughty Dog series yet. Any chance of a Jak game for PS3 then?

Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)

Even with the PSP's imperfect analog nub, the controls are tight and responsive, making the fight combat levels (nearly half the game) a white-knuckle joy. [Holiday 2009, p.80]

Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier maintains the wonderful platforming gameplay of its predecessors. High Impact Games has remained faithful to the franchise and has even added challenging flying missions. It looks beautiful, plays fluently and has plenty of variety to give you hours of fun. A minor tip to High Impact Games though: Fine tune the aiming system and the camera and the next game will definitely be a classic.

Nevertheless, just when we thought we'd seen the last of Jak and Daxter, High Impact Games surprises us with this thrilling romp. Welcome back, team.

Game Informer

As you might expect from a new developer’s take on a series with such history, The Lost Frontier doesn’t feel essential. If you miss this game, you’re not going to be missing any major plot movements or character development in the Jak universe (and don’t even get me started on the snoozer of a bad guy). But if you’ve been jonesing for the gameplay that made you fall in love with the series in the first place, The Lost Frontier more or less delivers.

Cheat Code Central

If you've been hankering for a full-scale Jak and Daxter game for some time, The Lost Frontier largely fulfills its duty as a continuation of the main series with flying colors. It's not a perfect sequel by any means, but it's strong enough to merit a purchase and some solid play time. Just be prepared to deal with some bumps along the way.

1UP

Despite the moments that Lost Frontier falters, most of the game is a solid sequel that lives up to the Jak legacy. The platforming is a nice homage to the existing Jak games, and the flight combat builds a new element that feels both refreshing and familiar.

Meristation

Jak and Daxter are back with a game that offers great visuals and gameplay, with many features that are worth it. Overall it's a good game, but we know that Jak's franchise can fare much, much better, and its pace in The Lost Frontier is not the ideal one.

There’s fun to be had here, but it could’ve been polished a bit more to bring out the value.

GameTrailers

It's not the new Jak game most fans were waiting for, but as a surrogate portable platformer, it will do in a pinch. But you better like flying. And eco.

Gaming Age

Some of the gameplay feels a bit archaic, and there's some unneeded filler here and there, but those looking for a quality portable platforming action title should be satisfied with Jak & Daxter's latest adventure.

This Playstation Portable game is more a throwback to the original games with a few new twists and turns, only not as solid.

Gameplayer Sweden

The first portable game in the Jak & Daxter-series is a well done game with a lot of different elements. For the younger player this could be a must-buy, but older gamers may find it a bit too easy.

I don't think it's awful -- I just think I experienced the entirety of what fun the game has to offer in just a couple of hours, and then repeated this until the credits rolled.
