Gaming Age

Vicarious Visions have once again done an exceptional job in adapting a console game to a handheld system, yet for the first time ever, have made it virtually indistinguishable.

The PSP version of X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse is better than the console versions thanks to the surprising level of quality and faithfulness to the original product.

Gamezilla!

On the PSP, it really shines, offering up a portable dungeon hack that matches its consoles counterparts in just about everyway -- something you can rarely say for a PSP port.

Official U.S. Playstation Magazine

This is exactly the kind of game the PSP needs. [Jan 2006, p.106]

eToychest

It seems a bit odd to say that a game rooted in comic books is now the best RPG experience to be had on the PSP. However, the game... even outshines its console counterpart.

PGNx Media

Definitely recommended if you haven’t picked up a console version. You aren’t losing anything in the game, but you’re able to play it in the bus.

GameZone

The gameplay is great, and feels right at home on the PSP. The controls are quite comfortable, and (expect for the lack of camera control on a second analog stick) work just as well as the console iterations.

Revel in the pixel-perfect GC and destructive, slowdown-free gameplay. You can thank me later. [Dec 2005, p.190]

Gamer 2.0

Provides a console quality experience in portable form. With danger room missions and comic book side stories, as well as unlockable characters and conceptual art, you will surely be playing X-Men Legends 2 long after the credits roll.

GamingTrend

A fairly linear game, and while there is a sense of exploration, the path for the game is fairly easy to find and it is difficult to get off-track into an area you shouldn’t be in.

Game Over Online

Technical glitches aside, this is an excellent port of the console title that doesn't cut any corners with the story or a number of the features in the game, which is a feat in and of itself.

I suggest a purchase for anyone who has a PSP and likes Action RPGs. You do not even have to be a hardcore X-Men fan to enjoy this one.

GameSpot

It's impressive that Raven somehow managed to cram every little detail of the game onto a handheld, but aside from the portability, there isn't much new here. However, if you haven't played the game on consoles, you won't be sacrificing anything if you pick up the PSP version.

IGN

X-Men Legends 2 feels like it was made for the PSP. This style of dungeon crawler is ideal for quick bursts of action on a handheld and the addition of four player co-op sweetens the pot.

While some of the game exceeds that of the console counterparts, problems with load times, camera angles, and some unstable frame rates hold it back.

Its straightforward gameplay is so well suited to portable gaming that this is arguably the more desirably version. [Jan 2006, p.82]

If you're a Marvel Comics fan then it's an absolute must. But even if you're unaware of the story behind this oh-so-famous band of mutants, it's still worth adding to your collection and again a must for RPG fans on the go.

Graphically, it can be too impressive for its own good at times, and the online experience doesn't quite measure up to that of the consoles, but it does more than enough things right to make it worth a look.

The extra goodies offset the lower framerate and iffy multiplayer. The core problem still hasn't changed, though, and if you tire of the same thing easily, you're going to be even more turned off by what the PSP version offers.

Tid B. gave it a9:
I really like this game, it's easy enough for a girlie girl to pick up and smack the crap out of some mean beasts but also hard enough for the boyfriend to be entertained whilst on the loo.

Wayne K. gave it a9:
I love the game. I now know how to overcome all the glitches. Definitely the best game Ive played in a while.

Shadow Throne gave it a10:
This is one of the best games out for PSP. It has lots of action a pretty good story line. graphics are great for the handheld system and has lots of diversity b/c of all the characters and their unique powers. This is a must get for PSP!

David L. gave it a10:
Wow, what a great game. This is an almost PERFECT translation of X-Men Legends 2 from the console versions (YES, even the graphics) with some more cool additions like new missions and characters. There is some lag in the framerate when loading, and the load times can be pretty long, but those are tiny problems when looking at the rest of the game. With its massive assortment of characters and its great story, this game gets my highest recommendation.

Ray P. gave it a9:
This game is great. It sometimes has pauses for a second or two during gameplay but not enough to detract. The PSP has been missing a good RPG. This is a great addition to the library.

Adam F. gave it a10:
What a perfect layout of characters and gameplay all on a PSP...Great Freakin game!

Charles F. gave it a10:
It's the best multiplayer game in the history!!
