Summary

[WiiWare] With ColorZ, set forth in your spaceships on a mission to clean up virus-infested planets. Immerse yourself in a new gameplay experience that will reveal mind-hand-eye coordination skills you never knew you had! Absorb viruses of your own color, but steer clear of the others. If you need to, you can cleverly merge your ships together to create new colors. Buzz past your enemies to keep your combo and clock up a new high-score record. Explore an extra dimension to the game with the multi-player mode and share the unique experience of cooperative play between friends. Pool your forces, synchronize your movements, and become a unified team (of up to 3 players) to meet the challenge together! [Exkee]

Edge Magazine

Ingenious, experimental and entirely polarising, games like ColorZ show that WiiWare continues to take the road less travelled. In doing so, the platform’s most poignant offerings reveal something a little bit magical - a fleeting glimpse of the soul lurking within the machine.

AceGamez

Regardless of its shortcomings, the key selling point of ColorZ is the challenge it offers to the gamer, which, I hope I've already stressed, is present in considerable scale. So, if you're looking for a kick-back-and-relax experience, you can forget it.

Gamer 2.0

Co-op helps ease the pain by letting you work with some friends to get through the fairly small amount of levels those two modes have to offer.

Without some issues ColorZ could have been a much better game. The single game experience suffers from a clunky control scheme, yet the multiplayer mode is quite rewarding in terms of fun. An advisable purchase for those who have friends to play with; others should spend their precious 700 Wii Points in other ways.

Colorz lures you in with its lavish colours & test to your coordination skills but it takes difficulty a step too far, unless you like your hard games with a side of cruelty. But if you’re looking for a multiplayer game, it’s a fun cooperative experience

Colorz plays well, but sadly the challenge is too high for one player due to the insane amount of coordination needed.

IGN

ColorZ is an intriguing multiplayer concept that feels awfully forced when played by a single person -- it could be called a real challenge in mental gymnastics, but I think it's more likely that the developers never intended it to be controlled that way and only shoehorned the three-way control scheme in late in development.

Nintendo Life

Altering the mechanics of the single-player game could have made it more appealing to a broader range of gamers, but as it stands it can only be recommended for multi-player sessions or gamers who are up for a high level of challenge and have a lot of patience.

anything, Colorz serves a purpose reminding players that people suck at multitasking, all while testing their knowledge of the color wheel.

NintendoWorldReport

In the end, ColorZ has some good intentions, and as a multiplayer title, it's very solid. The problem is that the single-player side hasn't been designed to accommodate one player, making the game too hard and possibly alienating many gamers who thought there was something to look forward to underneath all the color.

Thus, for 700 points, ColorZ is simply not worth the aggravation if you plan to play alone, but if you have friends or family to play with, ColorZ may be worth a try if the premise intrigues you.
